Young Latvian designers awarded/ Young Creative Chevrolet 09

Pupils of Latvia's art and design schools have gained an international recognition at a competition of European art schools Young Creative Chevrolet 2009. More than 500 works by pupils of European art and design schools from 19 European countries were submitted for the competition. Despite the tough competition two girls from Latvia won awards in five categories. Marta Dūdiņa from Janis Rozentāls Riga Secondary School of Art won the third place in the category of visual art for her proposal regarding graphic design of a of a racing car body. Karīna Stefanišina from Liepāja Secondary School of Art won the third place for a car advertisement video.

Marta and Karīna received the awards during a festive ceremony in Berlin on 29 October, where the name of Latvia was pronounced several times during the impressive show. Design contests provide an excellent opportunity both for pupils and their teachers to compare their skills in a broader competition. It is also vital that manifold competitions supported by influential manufacturers provide an opportunity to try one’s forces in the design fields which are not available in Latvia.
