Published "Another Travelguide Rīga"

A new guide Another Travel Guide Rīga has been published to break stereotypes and change views of foreign travellers about Rīga. It motivates to take a look at the capital of Latvia from a different viewpoint and see diversity of the city – from symbolic signs to pearls of suburbs and lovely places only insiders know about.

We would like to invite media representatives to participate in the launch of the guide on 26 November at 18.00 in the conference room of the hotel Bergs (Rīga, Elizabetes iela 83/85, the Bergs Bazaar).

The objective of the untraditional guide is to encourage the people, who have not previously considered an opportunity to come to Rīga, to visit it thus promoting the tourism industry which is one of the most important components of Latvia’s economy. Another addressee of the book is an inhabitant of the country who could be motivated by the guide to deviate from his or her routine and take a different look at Rīga to discover new surprises and to feel proud for the city.

The team of authors of the book Another Travel Guide Rīga are real insiders of Rīga. They are artists, architects, entrepreneurs, journalists and photographers who love their city and who are ready to share its secrets. On the one hand, it is a handbook of the city containing information about the best hotels, museums, culture objects, cafes, restaurants, shops and Rigans’ habits. On the other hand, it is a style book with an artistic value demonstrating a different, creative thinking which is cardinally different from the traditional tourist guides.

The book is published only in English. The authors of its concept are: fashion and travel journalist Una Meistere, art critic and curator Daiga Rudzāte and artist Kirils Kirasirovs. The publishers of Another Travel Guide Rīga are an internet magazine for independent travellers www.anothertravelguide.com and an agency of culture projects Indie. The project was developed and implemented in cooperation with a design office Tundra. Artist and scenographer Monika Pormale, writer Pauls Bankovskis, cinema critic Dita Rietuma, photographers Agnese Zeltiņa and Kristaps Kalns, translator Kārlis Freibergs and many others are among co-authors.

It will be possible to obtain the book in Rīga bookshops, style shops (Istaba, Garāža, Pērle, Inch, lolot), SPA centres (Taka SPA), on airBaltic aircrafts, in some hotels and restaurants. The book will be available also in Vilnius, Tallinn and Helsinki – in the most important shops of art exhibition halls and museums (in souvenir shops of the Tallinn Contemporary Art Museum Kumu and Helsinki Contemporary Art Museum Kiasma), as well as in the Helsinki department store Stockmann.

The project has been supported by the Bergs Bazaar, international airport Rīga, Rīga Free Port, Latvenergo, airBaltic, a trade centre Domina, Nordea, Map Antalis, P.R.A.E public relations, Slow Food Latvija and Mārtiņš Rītiņš.
