This Christmas the Environment Saving Team of DnB NORD together with a Latvian design shop Paviljons and artists of Latvian Academy of Arts are organising a charity campaign „Don’t throw out – transform and give as a gift!”.
During the campaign people can bring and give away things they do not need any more. These things will be reused to create new, unusual and interesting items which will be offered for sale at a Christmas charity market in the shop Paviljons located in a trade centre Domina from 11 December to Christmas. The raised money will be donated to the Crisis Pregnancy Centre (www.krizescentrs.lv) where everyone facing a problem of unplanned pregnancy or has had an abortion or miscarriage, or whose child or a close person has passed away can seek assistance.
One of the environmental problems facilitating global warming and environmental pollution is overconsumption. Therefore, the Environment Saving Team of DnB NORD invites everyone to fight against one of the strongest habits of the modern era – “to buy fast and throw out fast”. This habit makes us purchase things most of which we use only for half a year and then throw them out and buy new ones again. Such squandering has a negative impact on our financial situation and facilitates the increase of CO2 pollution and waste, as manufacturing of any articles requires raw materials and energy.
Christmas is approaching and everyone wants to give practical gifts embodying warm-heartedness of the season to their beloved ones. Currently, when many of us face more difficult times than before, it is even more essential to use all the resources at our disposal. Over years we have accumulated various things which can be transformed by a simple and creative touch thus giving them another life or a new way of application. Thus it is possible to use resources efficiently and create unique presents containing creativity and warm-heartedness of their creators.
Everyone, who will donate some smaller or bigger articles, will not only save the environment from pollution, but will also lend a helping hand to residents of the Crisis Pregnancy Centre. And anyone, who will purchase an item created during the campaign “Don’t throw out – transform and give as a gift!”, will not only have a gift for himself, herself or a friend, but will also give a gift to a person in need.
From 21 to 29 November people are invited to have a look around them and get rid of things they do not need any more by taking them to the shop Paviljons in the trade centre Domina.
Anything can be useful for creating nice and interesting Christmas gifts: • Kitchen utensils which are out of order or which you do not need any more – old blenders, hair dryers, computer parts and accessories, clocks, etc. • Tableware and dishes – spoons, knives, forks, plates, cups and saucers (even broken ones) glassware, etc. • Accessories and fittings – old bags, ties, watches, buckles, belts, rings, “single” earrings, etc. • Toys, Christmas tree decorations, books, small wooden and metal articles.
Message for designers and artists! Artists are invited to be active and participate in transformation of different items which will be available on 1 December from 10.00 to 21.00 in Paviljons in the trade centre Domina. Acceptance of the transformed things will take place on 10 December in the same place!! You can bring also ready-made articles, design objects, sketches and anything you want to sell at the market!!
